First time on the forum and I have a question that may have been asked a lot before…apologies if that’s the case…
I’ve got a metal barn that was wired for electricity and dry walled (my first attempt!) about 13 years ago. It’s used as a tinkering shop/artists studio and, while the ceiling doesn’t drip when it rains, it’s only sealed against the Gulf Coastal Texas elements about as well as a typical 2 car garage. I’d like to paint the interior of this space and I don’t need it to be pretty. A faux stucco effect, even an inconsistent one, would suit the environment just fine. Is there a relatively inexpensive product that can be troweled on over slightly loosened paper tape, untaped joints, and drywall surfaces that were never painted - all in a relatively non climate controlled setting - that won’t flake off of walls and/or ceiling in 5 years time? I need something that can be primed and painted.
Thanks!

you will have to cut out the loose paper before surfacing. sounds like its not climate controlled. if so i dont think any "drywall mud" will hold up. the best of those would be old brown bag durabond.

your best bet would probably be an exterior finish product. look up dryvit products.
