Should i build out the tapered edge first with hot mud before applying the tape? I am worrid that the cornr will be buried too far and it won't look good. First time doing this. Or do i just leave a fair bit of mud behind it while applying?

rarely is your corner going to be the tape on those. by time your done running it the walls will decide the actual corner. i just tape them and coat out both sides separately.

if you use strait flex, is a different animal. it had some memory to it. on inside corners you need to pre bend it less than you need. on outside bend it more than needed. it can pull out away from mud, as it dries, if not pre-bent correctly.
