I am wondering if it is wise to glue drywall directly to rigid foam on a basement wall. There are no studs to put screws into. This is a project that was started by someone else who is unable to finish it. I was told his plan was to plaster over the foam, but I think the drywall is a better idea.

NO! you need studs. its best to build walls mounted to floor and ceiling rafters. run electric, insulate, and hang it.
