Hoping to sell your home soon? Selling your home isn’t always easy, but there are lots of little things you can do to make it more appealing to potential buyers. Whether it’s simply fixing a broken light or repainting the entryway, small fixes can add a lot of value to your property.
Depersonalise
Although you might love all the personal touches you’ve added to your home over time, potential buyers are unlikely to feel the same. Many buyers struggle to envision how a home could look, unable to see past the décor and design in front of them; it’s for this reason personal touches are best put away to create a blank canvas that buyers can project their own vision onto.
Declutter
Just like an overly personalised home, too much clutter around your home can make it hard for potential buyers to envision how the house could look when they’ve moved in. Any you clutter you wish to take with you when you move, pack up and move out of sight and anything else should be thrown away, sold or given to charity. Too many books, ornaments, trinkets etc around the house can make it hard to move around during viewings as well as make the space feel smaller and darker.
The Importance of Lighting
Lighting can totally transform the look of a room. If it’s possible, try to get as much natural light into your home as you can. Spotlights are another great way to draw attention to certain parts of a room as well as brighten otherwise dark corners. It can also help to repaint dark walls in lighter more neutral colours as well as replace dim bulbs with a higher wattage.
Keep Pets Out of Sights
Although many people love animals, having pets around during a viewing can be a distraction and off-putting for some buyers. If you can, have a friend or family member look after your pets during viewings to keep them out the way. Clean away pet toys, cages, pet hair etc and open the windows to let in some fresh air.
Make Repairs
Have lots of small jobs around the house needing completed? Selling your home is the perfect time to complete lots of small repairs and DIY projects. Things like changing fuses in light fittings and removing dents in your carpet could be the difference between a sale and no sale; there are lots of home tips online which will point you in the right direction.
Have a Purpose for Every Room
Leaving rooms empty or lacking any purpose can easily put buyers off. Whether consciously or subconsciously, buyers feel lost when imagining themselves living somewhere with rooms that have no purpose. Making the layout of your home clear will save buyers having to imagine how your home could look and what could be done with extra space.
