Re: remodel prices (philly area)

Sea Seas is up by wilksbare, kinda near Bloomsburg college. I think you might be thinking of Stalag 13. I think a bunch of squatter punks ran it. Did it have a big roll up garage door. Oh the memories.... When I lived in Vegas I had a book of cd's stolen then again aout of my truck here at my house in AZ. The thing that really burns me up is they probably were like, what's this crap? And chucked it out the window. Most of them can't be replaced. Your right the souls were awsome, the dude from VOD has a viscious voice.

You guys are making me miss Y100. Napoleon your prices before the crash were reasonable and you should have actually gotten higher in the Philly area but cut throats are killing prices now. I don't know how they can do what they claim and I'd bet they try to tack on more at the back end or something.

geez this is my group of guys.. drywallers into punk and hardcore . i myself have been listening to a few newer bands like defeater, ruiner and polar bear club.. some hardcore/melodic punk groups, very good bands. also, comeback kid is a christian hardcore band and they are very good.

napolean as far as your bid goes its easy for a contractor to price out at $3100 on the multilevel house. you gotta figure about .30 for material which is probably over $1000.. probably paying illegal labor about $100 a day for probably 3 rockers/3 tapers. 2 days rock, 3 days tape 1 day texture if any (figuring $200 for texture) contractor guy is looking at $400 profit without even steping foot on the project... if your contractor guy and you have multiple jobs like this going per week you can make some bank just driving around.. now obviously this is unethical and i do not agree with hiring illegal labor but it IS typical these days..

Re: remodel prices (philly area)

Wow, I can tell I've been away from the music scene a loooong time. I've never heard of any of those bands, except for comeback kid. I never knew they were a christian band though. Oh well, guess thats part of getting old. I'll have to see if I can download some of those bands. Thing that sucks about indie music is nobody wants to share it on limewire. The downloads always end up incomplete, and at this point I'm not gonna go and buy every cd that I've had stolen.

Re: remodel prices (philly area)

so the original job that started this thread ended up being much bigger than the homeowner had told me. it wasn't 140, it was 240 and we just finished hanging yesterday. there was a 16 ft stairway with a skylight (18'). the whole downstairs was 9'.

@ A+ Texture LLC, yeah these bands are relatively new so it would be easy to bypass them. i'm 25 and i feel old going to these shows. seems if your not in highschool, your probably old to their standards.. never the less the music is still great. the polar bear club seems to draw us older, fatter, bearded dudes so thats cool .

Wow dude!! I didn't know Billy Bob Thortan was doing drywall now!! (I'm guessing thats your pops). Tell him thats a compliment, I think he's a rad actor. And I'm guessing you'r the one on the ground with your shirt off. That's weird. Your weird. Freakin weirdo!!
Anyway, that looks like a decent job how'd you guys make out? It looks like your at least eatin healthy on the job. Which reminds me, if you ever get back into Lancaster county go check out the "Udder Choice" in Ephrata. It's a ice cream parlor / Deli. All the ice cream is made right there and it's the only place that a turkey sandwich is made from an actual turkey breast baked in an oven right there. For reals, they bake a T-Day turkey and use that for their sandwiches. That was my job as a senior, best job ever, awsome food. Tell Alice and Bill that Kevin says hi!!

I know what it's like to feel old. And I can't help but notice that you mentioned the word "beard". I've got quite a manly beard goin myself. That was sort of a trademark of the oldschool guys when I was comin up in the scene. But I got family pics comin up in a week or so. I traded some work to a proffessional photographer for some good pics of the family, soooo the old man beard is gettin cut off. I'll be sad to see it go.
I'll tell you what, anyone wants to ship me a buncha cd's to burn I'll do the same in return. I love hearin new stuff, it's sorta my thing. That and murdering deer with my bow and arrow. Yeah, I said it. MMmm deer meat.

Re: remodel prices (philly area)

Just a little advice if your going to navigate the murky waters of Philly. Lose the man hour crap first of all. Every swinging **** in the city with a pick up truck and a t square is a sheetrocker anymore and NO ONE is gonna pay wages on the little jobs anymore. Per board is the mantra with almost every builder anymore because there are too many guys in your position lowering their numbers just to keep moving.
We hung 12 houses this week in the city all with 14 and 16 footers and lots of 14' 54s that were boomed in so you might want to find a different supplier or at least find a better way to buy. This is philly bro. You get your work through your network and your relationships. Driving up and down 19th street dropping cards all day aint gonna cut it. You gotta kn ow someone in Philly and your gonna be lucky to make 5-6 bucks a sheet at the end of the day.

Re: remodel prices (philly area)

Week before last I had a guy call me who said he had 1000 sheets sitting on the floor and deeded to hang them asap yesterday. I went right over and looked at the job.
All 12; x 5/8 standups on metal framing to 16' finish height. Labor only. You guys do your math and let me know what you come up with. Anyways, I tell the guy $25 per sheet and I will be sanded out in 8-10 days and he tells me that I'm crazy! I tell him thats not the first time that Ive heard that but, I'm not budging. He says he has a guy at $18. I told him god bless and good luck. Went back three days later and the board was up,scrapped, taped, and second coated. Thats what your up against nowdays and if you dont have the stomach for it you better go back to Bird in Hand or Blue Ball and get back to makin furniture or those wood pellett stoves or something because with materials going up again next month it's only gonna get harder.

Re: remodel prices (philly area)

Using your West Philly job as an example, if I use your footage I come up with 62 sheets (all 12's). I could price this at 35 a sheet and charge $500 for the patchwork and take the job at $2670.00 and make $1000.00 on that job that week after labor and materials. Your using the wrong math to get the work.
