Re: Hiring Friends or Relatives

they problem is the family or friends take advantage of you, and think they get special priviledges. I had the exerience, from my wife's brother and cousins.

Re: Hiring Friends or Relatives

One brother, 10 years great worker, had to lay off in '07. That sucked.

Other brother, 4 weeks, that sucked, too.

Best friend, one year and fired for perpetual tardiness, yep that sucked.

Never again.

Re: Hiring Friends or Relatives

I hired my sister in laws lesbian girlfriends little brother, drama ensued. Hired a family friend, drama ensued. I think most of us would probably be the rare one, but we also have the drive, ethics and workmanship to own our own buisness. Most people don't, they end up being the mistakes. 9 times out of 10... Bad Idea.

Re: Hiring Friends or Relatives

I would never hire a family member to do a job I have my reputation on the line for. There are way too many variables that can go wrong with a non family worker, why add the pressure of having someone you care about in that situation?

An appology for the "mssn S " "All depends." My brother and i work together for about 15 years in the drywall bussines, iam supervising the , spacklers, hangers, service the trucks, make sure the guys are on time in the jobs etc. etc. While my brother is the Big Boss, he is the owner,he's been on the field more than me, he takes care only doing estimates and talking bs with the customer, that's all he does. Iam not going to detail some of the inconvinience that we have had, like everybody else brother or not brother, relative or not relative, is my blood, he is my brother." All depends" of your rootssssss!!!!

I have a cousin who I worked with on and off the last 20 years. He is an excellent taper and the only guy that I trust knowing I can leave and come back to a good job at a high production rate.I just told him today that on the jobs he's working he'll get his standard $30 an hour plus 30% of the taping and finishing profits.
Other family members and friends,NOT SO GOOD
