This is my brother. Thought he should get on here with his 40 years in drywall thought it would be a waste to not share his experiences with others.

Re: Estimating software

take off live is a simple program and a knock off of oncreen . onscreen does everything that program does and a whole lot more options. onscreen has a free viewer you can download and do takeoffs with you just cant save your estimate. it works with plan rooms as well

Re: Estimating software

yes. big Fu***** ! today i sent out a proposal for 1.5 mil. It's not always like this, sometimes no estimates for a few weeks, then all of a sudden BOOM, I bid (2) million dollar jobs in last 2 weeks. All i need is one of them, i'll be good for the year, I just need the big boss to smile down on me for a few moments...Or at least 20% of all the work i been bidding. I just knocked a couple of GC's off the list b/c they weren't giving me any work, even though i been estimating for them.
Anyway, looking for an estimating program for drywall/metal framing, ceilings and that does take-offs. i'm considering planswift.

Yeah there are GCs that will use the same drywall contractor no matter what, and all they do is waste your time, using your bid for them to compare to their everyday drywaller.

Re: Estimating software

We use OST & Quick Bid and I can put out a mill a day easily in bids, 2 to 3 different bids totalling about a million. If you build you own style sets and have you soffit type already built for commercial applications, it is so much faster. We track it too, and we are right on the money every time (labor falls short some time, but not often).
