Business Question

I have been doing drywall for about 10 years, recently I moved to South Georgia and decided to go out on my own. (There are not many Drywall contractors here maybe 2.) I have a business license and trying to decide about going all the way with a LLC or Corp. Anybody have good or bad experiences with either? It's about 200.00 (roughly with all the fees) eighter way. I might wait until next year but if business starts picking up more then I might go ahead with it.

Right now I might wait a little. Run an add in the paper and craigslist, get some random jobs for the experience, they will probably be different than the norm. When things pick up go for it. For now take pics and get ready for the upswing.

Re: Business Question

what's an eighter?

go LLC, that's what I've got. That way if you f something up, they can't go after you personally, only the business. That's the short of it, there are also many other positive sides.

Re: Business Question

Do an LLC it's easy quick and it will protect you if some person tries to sue and go after your personal belonging like your home... also beginning 2009 Uncle Sam at least in MN makes any general contractor withhold 2 percent if you don't have an Tax Exempt certificate or an LLC . Don't sound like much but the truth is even if the contractor hires you without the proper certificates he will have to insure you themselves costing money out of there pockets which they will not do . If they don't withhold they can be fined $5000.00 So you see $200.00 is a small investment , after all if we can't afford such a small amount we shouldn't even be in business and would be classified as a cutthroat / hack working for nothing and be nonlegal , would not say much about ourselves... Do you even carry any insurance ?? It's all part of the business..don't ya think?

Re: Business Question

Yes, I do have insurance and work's comp etc. I did decide to go ahead and do the LLC. Silverstilts, I am just starting out on my own, it's only been about six months and work is slow. However, I do believe it is a good investment, the question was to go LLC or Corp. Thank you very much for your input.

Re: Business Question

Good choice if you was to incorporate it is a whole new game with a lot of B.S with just so much more , not bad if your were a large company but not necessary either.

Re: Business Question

silverstilts is right on and the best part(at lest here in MO) is the LLC is a one time fee! and even though its only a 100 bucks or so if your just getting started think of it like 10 boxes of mud and some rolls of tape. best of luck to you and see you at the top.
