A drywall company from another market hit builders in Pittsburgh with .48 per sq. ft. I'm told by my supplier the work is really bad. I can only imagine the mess.

.48 per sq.ft. material & labor, total job. These are production builders, telling their other drywall contractors they must match the price if they want the work.

so their labor comes out to roughly .18 per foot to hang AND finish? dang. I'm getting .46 to .54 a ft. and the GC supplies the rock. yep, somebody's getting reamed.

I sure would like to get those guys is a room somewhere and ask them WTF they are thinking. Doing nasty McMansions under .62 around here, they are turning apartment grade work. An former premium drywaller has joined this game. I can only shake my head and mumble to myself when I hear these numbers. Never thought I heard this from myself but.... Those poor painters!

That's per sq. ft. of board. Comes out to $17.28 per sheet 8 ft. $25.92 per 12 ft. GC supplying board. I supply mud, tape, labor. Any more than that around here (east texas) the you know who gets the job. I make a living. Busy as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest right now. I also keep my overhead way down. Me and a three man crew right now. I know that up north, my prices would seem low. The cost of living here is considerably lower than other parts of the state. I'm happy and busy....probably leaving money on the table...sure. But, I'm busy and the wife is happy soooo......guess that counts for something..lol.

Most places i,ve been 32cents a square for taping , and 17 cents a square for hanging. Taper supplies his material and the hanger supplies his screws. Thats the average and its a average in the west thats been around awhile. This is an average price for average tapers. I,ve gotten a lot more at times, but i can make decent money at 32 to 35 cents a square. Any any hanger that can,t make it at 17 to 18, is just flat slower then the second coming of Christ. Giddyup" The builder supplies the board.

i completely agree with what youre saying, but like darren says......."its suicide." im completely up for competition, but slitting my own throat -- no. Don't get me wrong, if i had a million square feet of drywall just happen to 'fall off the back of a truck'.....id be selling it this cheap.........but cmon.....you know that didnt happen. |
