Default 1099 s

How may of you out there check really good on your 1099 forms you receive ? I went back to check on some a few years back and found a 1099 for almost $10,000.00 It was the only job i did for the contractor , but the only problem was he didn't pay me . I filed a lien and the check ended up coming through the abstract company which they gave me a 1099 . so I call the IRS to inform them of how he is committing a fraud and sent them the proof ..... I never did call the GC I hope his A$$ gets fined good along with a lot of interest and penalties since it has been over three years since he had done this.... Payback is a bitch , what comes around goes around huh....

I wonder how many other people he has done that to? You can't be the only one. By the way if you filed that 1099 on a return you might want to check over it you may have some money due back to you.

Oh yes it was amended (got quit a chunk back to boot ), I know that the irs will go after him i made sure of that , and also made sure that every contractor within miles around here knows what kinda crook he is .... he really rubbed me the wrong way , i wouldn't have been such a jerk if he would have just come clean with me from the get go .... avoiding phone calls , the worst part was i had not even billed him out right away until his wife requested an invoice so they could get some money ,( did not want to be accused of showing up with wet mud still on my clothes looking for a handout ) her exact words gives us a bill we need some money so i did and that's what pissed me off they didn't want to part with my share.....like a lot of GC start spending other peoples money for their own toys and taking from others that need the money for their own families what an a$$ Ol

Has never happened to me but... my taper got 1099'd by two competitors for 10 times what they paid him. I told him to ask bookkeeper how to file properly and dispute the amount. He keeps copiuos records so burdeb of proof is on the contractor. One was inflated from 2K to 20K, the other from 4500 to nearly 50K.

That is crazy. I could almost understand the 4500 accidentally getting an extra zero but when you get several like that something is way wrong. Did he go to the employer and say " Think you made a mistake"? Just wondering what they said if anything.

Yes and both said they'd fix but one said was too busy to do it right away. Neither did so, sent taper on to file paperwork, dispute as is required in order for him to file his taxes correctly. I never dreamed of doing this to a sub. And both contractors are fairly reputable(were).
