i can't believe this thread got ressurected. but its taken an interesting turn. BTW we are all pigs. for this reason ricky martin has never announced whether he is gay or straight. if he says he's straight he loses the bulk of his fanbase, just like you did. i bet this is the first and hopefully last time ricky martin is ever mentioned on drywall talk. my deepest apologies.

Hey whether she's young or not she's 99.1% more successful than MY 20 plus years experience right now. I'm thinking she's a drywallers daughter and daddy did a good job teaching her. I may be wrong. I do know MY daughter has picked up more than I ever realized and thats just from being around me at home, not the job. Women can be tough!!!My wife helped me hang plenty of high, double 5/8s garages and whined less than most of my young bucks....and didnt let the GD sheet move either. Plus the sight of a chick in work boots makes my tongue hurt....cuz I STEPPED on it

Framing/ Drywall/ Finishing/ Accoustical Ceilings * 16-18.00 an hr
40-60 sq ft + craftmanship drywall and paint charges
1.00 ft ridge vent
What do you think of my prices?
Im new in the Biz, so help me out!
I just turned 21 yesterday!!!!

I think Im doin pretty good, for bout a year now on my own, and my crews have it down tight!

Nice to see I have support in the Construction Community! Kidding!
Just because Im young does not mean Im not good at what I do, personally to be able to say that Im one of the few surviving drywall companys at this hard time in ga, should say something about my company. I know all levels of finishing, I can do anything textured walls, trey ceilings, accoustical ceilings, built-ins, sofits... metal framing and the list goes on. My husband has been doing this for 6-7 years, and hes taught me all the goods. All I can say is that my guys get the job done right, fast and on a tight budget. I think that is what customers are looking for right now, and that is why my business is flourishing right now, when most others and doin jack.

To you wondering why we are starting in the roofing, is becasue recently weve had a pretty serious hailstorm in ga, with a lot of damage. My past-customers have been coming to me looking for roofers with the same skills and talent as my framers/drywallers, and cant find them anywhere.

What I seem to find out there is a lot of contractors/subs just want to make a lot of money, quick. But they dont realize if they would keep their prices at a good income level for them-yet low enough for a tight budget, they would get more business. That is what we are doing, and if some contractors cant support that, I look at them as my failing competetor.
Hey props to you but to bad 18 /hr doesn't even cover workers comp/taxes. If your getting paid cash, well then its good. All I can say is the IRS will get you and so will W.C. Beware of the Audits. I seen alot of my buddies lose it all. My friend's mother in law was a piecework finisher, and got back-charged for unpaid taxes dated 10 years back. All I can say is stay legit, and keep the mexicans covered.

Umm...not out of business just yet...and I am not some "gurl".
Once again, I am a lady who can handle her business and YES I can cook like nobody's business...not that that has ANYTHING to do with drywall! First of all PLEASE do not come on this thread and rant on and on about workers comp and "Mexicans", you know who you are. I know every detail about my business, due to the fact that I have arranged, created and have accounted for every part of my business, including taxes. I am an entrepreneur who is a young mom...and I am currently attending college. I consider myself to be an innovator in this business because of this and I will not sway from this because some 40 something drywaller men cannot handle the thought of my triumphs in the aggressive drywalling business. Take a big BOOYAH and go on your way fellas. I can't understand why a drywalling lady can't get a bit of praise every once in a while...geez.
Meanwhile I will keep on keep'n on.

for those about, <tips hat> well put.

jeezis people, ignorance flying in every direction there. roofing was addressed in original post, heavy hail damage in georgia.... makes sense. 18 an hour might be peanuts in one area, good money in another. depends on local economy. just about any wage can be enough if you are willing to work steady. young lady, i hope in 20 years you are still keepin on keepin on.... maybe you will be buying the tools these old farts are selling to pay for their prostate surgery, and you will have learned so much that you might almost know as much as you think you do already. anyone that is willing to do a good job for a fair price will have had their part in another many millions of homes all over the country, and this thread that started out great but somehow ended up stupid, will be long lost. everybody wins.

everything else aside, mrs cvp, good luck. give yourself a decent raise soon.

Hi young lady. I'll introduce myself later. You want a little respect and stuff like that from the folks on this forum but you come running in like your $hit don't stink. You're 21 and running your company for a year, you do more then one area of expertise and yet expert in them all. You are a mom and a college student and can cook any body out of the kitchen. To top it all off, you charge 16-18 per hour and hire crews to do the work. You claim you are all legal. Why are you even on this forum? You don't need our help(or it apears you don't). You stated that you can handle your self quite well. Maybe come in this forum with a little less "I'm the best" attitude and these guy's might stop pulling your leg so much. Pride, confidence and expertise will always be welcomed on the forum but a blown up ego - I wish you luck.
For those that don't want to wait for my introduction post, I'm on painttalk under Ardee. I had to change my name on here since the name was already taken.

I was trying really hard to refrain from commenting on this thread further as I feel that I would only be giving into this attention seeking trollups desires, but WTF. 20 yrs ago when I was your age I too believed that I had the world by the shorthairs. Fortunately my parents and the people I apprenticed for taught me a whole lot about humilty and respect. Whoever has “taught you all the tricks” has done you quite a “dis” service because you my dear have neither. Unfortunately neither you nor your husband have the time yet invested to make such proclamations. I hardly understand how someone with your busy schedule of child rearing, furthering your education, cooking and being the self-proclaimed queen of sheetrock has the time to even post here. If you are actually serious about making this construction venture of yours a career you could learn a lot here if you would follow one simple rule, I learned this one in kindergarten…You have two ears and one mouth use them accordingly. If you need advice on anything construction related you could not meet a better group of people then the ones who take the time to visit these forums and share their “wisdom” with those who still haven’t got it all figured out yet. So sweetheart, the next time you start feeling a little cocky and that no one is giving you your “props” take that little finger and give that piece of glass in front of you a little tap and realize that you might think you are a really big fish but the truth might just be that you are in a very small bowl. So step back from your reflection and take a few laps around that little plastic castle of yours because it is all relative. Best of luck to you hopefully with age comes wisdom. Remember this though, you can send a donkey to college but when it comes out it is still going to crap in the street . That being said, my name is Jenn, I am the other half of For Those About To Rock.
