Interesting Employees
Over the years I've had some pretty unique employees. I thought it might be fun to share some stories about the good, the bad and the ugly.

Re: Interesting Employees
I had a helper, grown man not teenager, tell me he couldn't stand on my benches because he " was afraid his feet would pull him over the edge".....I'm not kidding.
Another helper was hanging ceilings with me,we put the sheet up and I asked him if it was good on his end....no answer....I turn and look over my shoulder and see his eyes closed, head hanging to the side, drool dripping from his mouth and somehow his arm was locked so I got it tacked faster then I ever had before and got down off the bench....I stood there until he snapped out of it then told him I didn't need any more help. Later I learned he was hooked on pain killers,H and who knows what else.

Re: Interesting Employees
When I was younger & worked for my Dad he had a guy with 1 leg that helped him hang. This was back when everything was predominantly 8'. When we hung lids he would stand on the floor & hold one end of the sheet up with his crutch
![]() Back then you never had to worry about knocking out any closets, he always took care of them so we dubbed him the "one legged closet monster" Good times

Re: Interesting Employees
I worked with a guy who loved chewing tobacco. He never spit on the floor because he would tape a big cup to his chest. I'll never forget the day he slipped taking off his stilts and ended up covering himself in brown goo.

Re: Interesting Employees
LOL I forgot all about the 2 hilljacks I had help me a few years ago. They both chewed tobacco too. They also loved to have farting contests first thing in the morning. I got the house lidded up and finished it up by myself. 2 visits to the chiropractor but it was worth the fresh air and clean floors.

Re: Interesting Employees
Interesting combo. Try cooked cabbage and top off with a Taco Bell bean burrito with green sauce. You'll win next time.

Re: Interesting Employees
on the subject of gross.....
Again back years ago when I was younger maybe 15- 16 working summers for the ole man, back then you were lucky to have a Porta-John on site. We used to piss in empty glue tubes & chuck em out the window. In the extreme circumstance number 2 was knocking at the back door it was either a trip down to the local gas station or, find a box & dark private area, usually the basement (we always kept a spare roll of TP in the truck) & do the deed. One day this one cat Dad had workin for him (sick ****) comes strolling in where we working with box in hand & says "Hey' check out the rabbit I caught in the basement!" Curious we all walk over to take a peek & much to our chagrin the 'so called rabbit' is this cats early morning coffee induced steaming pile of mud trout. Yea I was pretty disgusted. |

Re: Interesting Employees
A pair of painters once had made all their "deposits" in a 5 gal. paint bucket and left it with the rest of the partly used buckets in the understair closet. The builder, always interested to know how much extra paint was left over, came thru the house on the last day and proceeded to give each bucket a kick to see how much each bucket had in it. Well, when he got to the potty bucket, I guess he kicked a little harder than usual, and the contents sloshed real hard up the side and straight out the top onto the builder. We never saw those painters again
He was furious, to say the least.

Re: Interesting Employees
I had a guy come through for work once. I tried very hard to discourage him from getting into drywall work even though I needed someone and he seemed like he would be a good guy to work with. I kept hitting him with the idea of how hard and unrewarding the word is and explained the pitfalls. Yet he was undaunted. I ended up hiring him only to find out later he had an equilibrium problem and couldn't walk on stilts. I didn't get rid of him at that point but thought, he won't make much money if he can't walk stilts. So I made a simple bench for him out of two buckets and a plank.
But he was still not working out, after I had coated all the flat seems I didn't see him for awhile and went looking for him. He was smiling and said, "I just coated all the flat seems a second time for you." I was angry since he coated right over web compound. He didn't last long after that. When I hired for help again I made my own job applications that had a questionare on the back!

Re: Interesting Employees
You put that hard of a test on it, they'll never pass.
You're lucky if they can read the application. |

Re: Interesting Employees
I was always partial to a good ole empty glue box. A little more height and comfort. Just don't put tooo much weight on it.
