Today I received a call to come back to the shop because the Fire Marshall was there and when I got there this is what happened.
Oh let me first say for those of you that don't know I'm not new to drywall but I'm very green or wet behind the ears when it comes to running a drywall business. So my shop is a small one but it fits my needs right now and work is very slow so I'm doing good just to pay the bills, then I get a visit from my friendly neighborhood fire marshall; he tells me that I need 1, 10 gallon fire extinguisher because I guess the 2, 5 gallon ones I have won't cut the cake. Oh and then he saw the office I'm building inside the shop and wanted to see the permit I didn't have(the office was technically there, the framing was done, I am just putting up new drywall). Then he noticed that I have an open chimney(where the heater goes in the winter). And the fact that I didn't have a "Key Box" outside seamed to pose a problem. All other citations were waved but my knees are still sore. I know that the landlord will take care of 2 of these and probably raise my rent but this has to be the worst time in the world to have to absorb unexpeted costs of any kind. So lets hear your love affair with these guys and thanks for letting me vent. ![]() |

We have a special fire district here that gets a fee per permit of $.25 per sq ft for ....get this. They inspect the structure for fireblocking and location of smoke detectors. Two things am absolutely certain are part of building codes already. BTW, they must have 24 hour notice for an inspection (unless there was a fire since it was called in and then you get to wait until they get around to it). The revenue generated is(was) staggering.
