Drywall posers

When I was a kid we had people we called "posers" they were the guys/gals that had all the clothes, equipment, talked the right talk but when it came down to crunch time they had nothing. You know the people I'm talking about so lets hear your stores on it.
I'll start:
I was still green and working on a hotel I had 1 single room and 2 doubles to do(I was at this time working for a DC and he gave me a week's worth of work. There were 3 guys I met on the job that talked the talk and walked the walk but they had no tools? They said if I helped them on there rooms and we used my tools(they were out of towners and said the old my tools weren't here yet thing) then they would help me on mine and so I said "OK".
I helped them on theirs and when it came time to return the favor they were always "out to lunch! so I was given 3 more rooms when the others were complete and the 3 of them only 2 rooms. Four days later I was done with mine and they had barely even touched theirs(both rooms in different stages and not one stage compete). I found out latter that it took them(3 guys mind you) 2 more days to compete there 2 rooms(and the tuch up guy had to come back and spend 4 hours per room fixing things) as it did me to compleat 3 rooms by my self? but hell they gave me lots of good advice on how to finish lol.

Re: Drywall posers

When I was starting out (as a Hanger), we used to get beat out (on apartments) by guys who would run in and lid out every unit they could. Meanwhile, the crew I was with lidded 2, completed 2, and so on. When we ran out of fresh unit the DC thought he could send the tapers to do the whole building. Surprise!!! Ours was the only floor ready to tape while the other guys had pigged up two floors by claiming the work with lids only. The next building, them cats was GONE! Guess not so much posers as pigs.

Re: Drywall posers

I like the ones who show up with shiny trucks, new tools and 5 teenagers and tell me they've been in the business for years. Then they come over and ask me how I would run this ceiling and that high work and the round stairwell over there....they proceed to stand there and look at me as if I owe them an answer.
