$5 Million Fine for Hiring Illegal Immigrants
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: December 15, 2006 SAN DIEGO, Dec. 14 (AP) — A Southern California fence-building company and two executives pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to knowingly hiring illegal immigrants and agreed to pay a combined fine of $5 million, the government’s latest coup in a crackdown on businesses. The business, Golden State Fence Company of Riverside, pleaded guilty to knowingly hiring illegal immigrants, a misdemeanor, and agreed to pay $4.7 million to the federal government. It admitted hiring illegal workers from January 1999 to November 2005. Mel Kay, 64, the company’s founder, chairman and president, and Michael McLaughlin, 42, manager of the company’s Oceanside office, pleaded guilty to the same charge but as a felony. Mr. Kay agreed to pay a $200,000 fine and Mr. McLaughlin a $100,000 fine. The men, who admitted hiring at least 10 illegal immigrants in 2004 and 2005, were released on their own recognizance. Sentencing is set for March 28. |

Good idea. I the punishment fits the crime here. This needs to stop, and not just in San Diego but all over the country.

Here's a another hefty fine. But for WC.
SW Florida Drywall Company Fined $361,000 February 10, 2003 Florida Chief Financial Officer Tom Gallagher announced the state's Division of Workers' Compensation fined a Naples drywall contractor more than $361,000 for failing to provide workers' compensation coverage for new employees.A workers' compensation investigator found that David Casman and Joan Veltre, owners of Gulf Coast Drywall & Stucco Inc., located at 17252 Alico Center Road, Ft. Myers, failed to add six workers to their payroll before allowing them to work on a job site in Naples. "Employers who evade premiums risk leaving workers without a safety net to pay for potential work-related injuries," Gallagher said. "And by choosing to 'go bare,' they drive up insurance costs for businesses that follow the law." Casman and Veltre used an employee leasing company to run payroll for Gulf Coast Drywall & Stucco Inc. and to provide workers' compensation insurance coverage to their leased employees. The investigator discovered Casman and Veltre failed to report the new workers to the leasing company, thus denying all six men any workers' compensation insurance coverage. Casman and Veltre told the investigator they did not know they had to add the men on the payroll prior to putting them to work on the job site. The Bureau of Compliance is a branch of the Division of Workers' Compensation that ensures employers obtain and maintain the required workers' compensation insurance coverage for their employees. During the first six months of the current fiscal year, bureau investigators assessed more than $4.7 million in fines and contacted nearly 14,000 employers to verify insurance coverage. Anyone with information concerning an employer who fails to secure the proper workers' compensation coverage for employees should notify the bureau at (850) 488-2713. Information may also be mailed to Department of Financial Services, 200 East Gaines Street, Tallahassee, Fla. 32399-4228. Here's the article

Mark Twain once went to borrow a certain book from a neighbour in Tarry town. "May I borrow a book from you?" he asked politely. "Yes,you're more than welcome to it," the neighbour told him. "But I must ask you to read it here. You know I make a rule never to let any book go out of my library." Some days later the neighbour wished to borrow Twain's machine for cutting grass in the garden. "Why,certainly," Twain told him,"You're more than welcome to it. But I must ask you to use it here. You know that I make it a rule never to let it go out of my garden." I have nothing to offer but blood , toil tears and sweat . At first they will usually begin to elect leaders that are further and further to the left as has happened down in south america and central america. After supply side economics (raygunomics) wrecked every economy it was applied to the continent went left wing big time. The leftys seem to have a really strong hold now I believe just about every country is leftist except Colombia. But violence is often another route taken by the population. For example when the economy got really bad under the supply siders what you saw was a big increase in kidnappings of the rich. Thats still happening today. I had a relative that had to briefly work in South America and he said that the rich really worry when they have to leave their houses which are often heavily guarded. I also saw a film about it on "Independent Lense" and they showed several people that looked like they had the crap scared out of them. One girl stated that she didn't want to leave her house at all. I've also read about incidents where gated community guards "flipped" and joined groups that ended up robbing the communities they were suppose to be protecting. |

I hadn't even thought of South America,I was thinking more along the lines of the USSR and Russia before communism. Thats a good point though,I saw a program about those places a while back. Necessity doesn't always produce GOOD inventions. People tend to NOT lay down and die and will do whatever they have to in order to survive. Americans aren't well known for being docile, all our ancestors were fed up with the old world when they came here.
